What I Want To See From The Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Conference on Friday.

First off, I couldn’t give a shit about FFXIII-3 or whatever the fuck Square is going to call it. Sure, I’ll preorder it and the collectors guide, just because I am a collector. And I will play and platinum it, because I didn’t put 300 hours into XIII and another 60 into XIII-2 only to have nothing for XIII-3. Now that I have that off my chest, this is what I want to see.

  1. Some sort of progress on FFversusXIII. Square has been teasing for months, and it’s becoming more frequent. They also came out and said it hasn’t been cancelled. I want a trailer. I want english voice actors. I want a Japan release date.
  2. At that rate, how about FFXIII Type-0? It’s out in Japan! I want it to come out, or at least something telling me it’s being released in North America. Possibly we know nothing about it because it was released on the PSP in Japan and Square wants to release it on the Vita. Either way, I want to know.
  3. Some sort of trailer and release date for the FFX HD version. ‘Nuff said.
  4. Some insight into these new rumours floating around for FFXV. Frankly, I’m getting sick of the XIII world, and even though I know these are going to be good games, XIII-2 just ruined the world for me.

This conference is going to be 8 hours long, so there will be enough time to showcase everything. What do you guys want to see from Square on Friday?

Day 30: Favorite Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy IX. I could go on for a while about why this is my favorite Final Fantasy, but I won’t. Let’s start with the fact that it was my first Final Fantasy game I completed fully. It definitely holds a place in my heart because of that. Also, the characters are some of the most memorable of the series for me. Vivi, being a pawn, and not sure why he existed. Steiner, doing whatever possible to protect the princess, and always being loyal to the queen, even though she turned evil. Eiko, the last of her race of summoners (or so she though) living in Maiden Sari with all of her moogle friends. Amarant, the loner that is trying to figure out why Zidane puts so much effort into protecting people, even if he doesn’t know them. Quina, the s/he that ate everything in sight and provided comic relief. Freya, trying to come to terms with the fact that her one true love had forgotten who she was and that he ever knew her on his quest. Garnet/Dagger, the girl who wanted to see the world, and was willing to be kidnapped to do so. And Zidane, the trouble maker that didn’t realize he was a part of something huge. All of these characters (and a few supporting ones) hold a dear place in my heart. There are a million other reasons why this is my favorite game. But I’ll just leave it at that.

Day 29: Favorite Cid.

Cid Raines, Final Fantasy XIII. The entire game he felt like what he was doing was right. He tried to stop the Fal’Cie from destroying cocoon, and was turned into a L’Cie himself, with the focus of helping the party destroy a nation. He continually helped you, without you realizing he was just a pawn. And when he revealed to you what was going on, he gained his free will and tried to stop you, even though it meant turning Cie’th. Of course when you defeated him, he turned into crystal because he helped the party grow stronger. And even after that he was turned into a puppet by Barthandelus and still used to cause chaos. And even though he was a puppet he still had the will to ask for death, because he was living a life he refused to live.

Day 28: Best Friendship

Fang And Vanille, Final Fantasy XIII. Because of the way they grew up, they were more family than friends. Their bond with each other is so deep. No matter what they were going to find each other in this huge world. And not to mention, Vanille lied about becoming Ragnarok, and not remembering anything to not only protect Cocoon, but to protect Fang as well. And quite the opposite, Fang was willing to become Ragnarok just to protect Vanille. I know a lot of people find the pairing intriguing as well, as a lesbian couple, and wouldn’t that be perfect? I mean, they’re best friends and have been through so much. The best couples are always best friends as well.

Day 27: Best Chocobo Music Arrangement.

Ukulele de Chocobo, Final Fantasy IX. Now, I’ve already posted this one on a different day, but that’s only because I didn’t realize this question was here. IX was the first Final Fantasy I’ve played, therefore this particular chocobo theme brings back memories related to the franchise, and no theme has connected me like that since.

Day 26: Minigame That Made You Lose Your Shit.

Chocobo Racing, Final Fantasy X. See, I gave up on the dodging lightning shit for Lulu. Tidus on the other hand… Oh my god. I never did it. It pissed me off so bad. One reason I am not excited for the remaster, if Square adds trophies to the game and I have to get the ultimate weapons I might just break a controller. It’s unbelievable. Getting 0.0 seconds on a race. That’s insane. Just thinking about it infuriates me.

Day 25: Favorite NPC.

Beatrix, Final Fantasy IX. I don’t care that you play her for a scene in FFIX. She counts as an NPC. She was strong, and in the end she stood up for what she believed in. In many ways she progressed more than Steiner did. She knew what Queen Brahne was doing was wrong, but she was stuck because she was the head of an army. But after she realized what was going on, she made sure to redeem herself and helped drive back Kuja’s minions from Alexandria.

Day 24: Favorite Battle System.
Tweaked ATB system, Final Fantasy XIII. Don’t get me wrong, I love myself an old turn-based battle system. However, after I got a hang of the new system, I loved the speed of it, even more-so in FFXIII-2. Plus, I liked the challenge it presented in the later stages of the game. If you didn’t get those paradigm shifts off at the right second you’d be dead. I did like the system in XIII better, aside from the speed, for the sheer fact I could use all characters as all roles. Which really helped in some fights. Instead of picking and choosing. However, that’s more of a crystarium/level progression issue than an actual battle system issue.

Day 23: Best Song.

1000 Words, Final Fantasy X-2. Now, this is “Best Song” so, since I’ve chosen melodies for “Favorite Main Theme”, “Favorite Character Theme”, “Favorite Final Boss Theme”, and “Favorite Composer”, I decided to choose a (I don’t want to say actual, but actual) song. Let me pre tense this with, I actually enjoyed this game. And the whole Yuna/Tidus love story is my favorite couple, so with Yuna wishing to see Tidus again, and the whole Lenne/Shuyin thing, this song can draw such emotion if you actually relate and invest yourself into the story. And it drew a lot of emotion out of me. And it sticks with me. Which is why I chose this song. It still stands out to me, even though I haven’t played the game in years.

Day 22: Favorite Composer

Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy I-XII and Advent Children. How would this even be a contest? This man composed for all of the early Final Fantasy’s. Most of us who have played our entire lives were brought up by this series, and in turn his music. I would have placed the prelude to FFI on here instead, but since it’s in an earlier post, I posted my favorite Chocobo theme, which happens to be Ukelele de Chocobo from Final Fantasy IX.
